Frequently asked questions

Can you make a piece that's not on your price list?
Yes, I have made several pieces to order so if you don't see exactly what you want please ask (see the gallery for some examples)..

Does it cost extra to have a name engraved?
No, all engravings are included in the price and you can have anything you want engraved (e.g. date of birth) as long as it will fit on the charm! Although names are normally engraved on the back they can be put on the front if there's enough space.

Can I have several prints one charm?
Yes, the larger charms (large heart, flower and dog tag) can easily fit two prints and the large heart can fit three prints. Some of the smaller charms (leaf and teardrop) can also fit two prints if the children are very young. Other sizes of charms can be made on request.

How much do extra charms cost?
Extra charms are priced at the single charm rate (£25, or £20 for the charm bracelet size)
.

Is my baby too young to have their fingerprint taken?
I have successfully taken prints from babies a few weeks old (the youngest was just 17 days old), although it varies from person to person and in general the older the child is the clearer and more defined their fingerprint will be.

Is my child too old to have their fingerprint taken?
Nobody is too old! I have taken prints from adults as well as teenagers and older children.

Can I order through the post?
Not at the moment, sorry!

What is PMC?
PMC (precious metal clay) is a silver clay. It is a mixture of pure silver, water and a non-toxic organic (naturally occurring) binder in a putty-like consistency. It can be rolled, cut, stamped, folded, weaved, carved and much more.
When fired, the water and binder burn off leaving a 99.9% silver piece (known as 'fine silver') with the original shape and all textures and details retained. It can then be worked as metal, finished as traditional silver and is of hallmarking quality.

There are two brands of silver clay. Art Clay Silver is made by Aida Chemical Industries and Precious Metal Clay (PMC) is made by the Mitsubishi Materials Corporation. Both companies are based in Japan. Silver clay is recycled and reclaimed from many different sources such as film stock and negatives.

Can I order further charms without having the fringerprint taken again?
Our fingerprint charms are not made from a mould. Your child's fingerprint is imprinted directly on to PMC, so a new fingerprint is needed for every charm.

How long does it take?
It usually takes just a few minutes to take your child's fingerprint, though sometimes it takes two or three tries to get a good print (it may take longer if they wriggle)! Orders are usually posted out - first class, recorded delivery - within two weeks though if you need them for a particular date we can usually deliver them more quickly.
